It was surprising how much of a lack of description that the scene that just unfolded had. The little girl fell into the street and sighed. Because people sigh when eighteen wheelers speed towards them. Then she got hit, and her blood somehow appeared everywhere.
Apparently someone took her to the hospital and called the ambulance. Which made no sense. Then the ambulance came to go take her to the hospital yet again. A doctor, who should have been on duty, stepped out of the ambulance.
"Steve?" Nodoka was incredulous. The doctor was NOT a paramedic, but here he was, pretending to be one. "What the hell. You're not on break! Get back to the hospital!"
"B-but..." Steve looked at the gritty asphalt and whined. "I've always wanted to be in the back of an ambulance...."
"Then go on your spare time!" Nodoka shook her head in disgust. "Your diagnosis wasn't even correct. What kind of doctor are you? 'Your friends or whatever..' That lacked any hint of professionalism!"
Steve scratched his bald head, then shrugged. "She lost a lot of blood, so..." He shrugged again. He looked a bit miffed to have his coworker, being less than half his age, reprimanding him.
"Yes, she did lose a lot of blood," Nodoka agreed. "And rolling her onto a stretcher isn't going to make that turn out any better."
"But she needed to go to the hospital... And there wasn't anyone to help me..."
"Wait, did you just hi-jack this ambulance? And after that collision, she might have had head or neck injuries. You could have just made things a lot worse."
"She said her head and neck didn't hurt..." Steve bit his lip. He looked to be on the verge of tears.
"Steve..." Nodoka's voice softened, but her expression didn't. "Just because she said so doesn't mean it is not injured. She could have been in shock."
"She seemed kind of fine to me. Besides the coma part..." Steve was desperately trying to save his reputation at this point. "She might get out of the hospital today if she is lucky...."
"Do you realize what a hospital is, sir?" Nodoka was fuming, and certainly prepared to begin a long winded rant. "EVEN IF SHE HAD THE LUCK OF THE GODS SHE COULDN'T GET OUT! She just lost massive amounts of the blood and has sustained several serious injuries! Coma or NOT she can not walk out of the hospital for at LEAST two weeks!"
"S-sorry..."
"Don't 'sorry' me! She's not even going to BE in a coma! Look at her! She stood up! She's alert! She's talking! Listen to her! I think she has a concussion."
"No thank you, Taito, good sir. Bananas are the point of wrath today, so therefore it is out of fashion."
"Okay, she's definitely in a concussion," said Nodoka, striding purposefully over to the injured teenager.
"Alright honey, I know first-aid, so I'm going to help you. I'm just going to take care of you until the real paramedics arrive.
"Steve might have done some damage to you, so I'm going to check you to see if your head and neck are okay. Try not to move at all, and don't worry about what I'm doing. I'm just going to check you to see if anything is broken. Just tell me if it hurts."
The black haired doctor-off-duty felt the girls forehead and cheeks.
"Your temperature is a little bit above average, although you're a little bit pale, but that's just from blood loss and shock."
Nodoka carefully ran felt the area on her neck. No negative response. The teen simply continued to watch as the young doctor worked. Nodoka's hands carefully touched her sternum and ran down her arms and legs. There was a lot of blood, but not in any unusual places.
"Ow!" The short haired girl winced when Nodoka touched her left forearm. "Ow." She winced a second time when her right thigh was prodded.
"Honey, you have a broken tibia and your femur might be fractured. Now I'm going to check your breathing. Just breathe normally."
Nodoka placed her hand on the girl's stomach and looked at the watch on her left wrist. She carefully counted the rises and falls for fifteen seconds.
"You have a rate of twenty, which is perfectly normal."
The siren of the ambulance sounded in the distance. It quickly approached and the sound soon filled the ears of all the witnesses. Steve looked nervous.
The ambulance slowed down and pulled up next to the other one. Two paramedics jumped out of the back of the van and found the victim lying conveniently on a stretcher, and Nodoka taking care of her.
"Hello. I didn't have any paper, so I couldn't report my findings."
"That's okay," said a tall dark-haired man. The black paramedic uniform was baggy on his slightly small frame." "Can you tell us a bit though? Maybe on the way to the hospital?"
He picked up one side of the stretcher and the blond haired woman on the other side did the same. They quickly brought the body into the ambulance, and Nodoka jumped into the back with them. Mummy man, prepubescent blonde, and scarfy bluenette were watching, fascinated.
"Um.... See you." The three guys ignored Nodoka.
"Be more careful," Mr. Mummy told the blonde kid before turning back to yell at his blue haired sibling. Blondie nodded and looked down at his feet, looking upset for almost killing a person. For about three seconds, before his thoughts turned elsewhere and a content smile filled his face.
