"......And another typhoon will hit the coast of Japan over here.." A weatherwoman was gesturing to a large map of Japan. Some symbols were on that map, showing the warm fronts and cold fronts and such and such.
Mugi yawned and reached into the bag next to him for another cheese puff. He placed it in his mouth and crunched down, his eyes still on the screen.
"Another typhoon, huh..."
He scratched his side and ate a few more cheesy snacks.
"I'm so bored.. Nothing's on TV." Mugi licked the cheese from his fingers and picked up the remote with his free hand.
A few more clicks later, he turned off the TV altogether and sighed.
"If only someone could like, come over."

"Oi, Miisha-chan! Look at this!"
Katsuo pointed to the television screen as Miisha dashed into the living room. "Mm?" she asked, not sounding especially interested.
"...another typhoon will hit the coast of Japan over here, in this area," said the weather woman on the TV. "Residents are asked to be prepared for numerous blackouts and possibly some flooding, and please try to stay indoors..."
"Oh. Typhoon." Miisha turned on her heel and proceeded to trudge up the stairs. "Just more rain," she grumbled.
Katsuo looked over at her. "Hey, hang on a second, Miisha-chan!" he called. "Don't you think it will be exciting? Typhoons don't happen very often and I think all that rain and wind lashing about would be fun to stand around in! Or we could... study it?" He blinked in thought. "Play in it? Hang out in it? Walk in it? Ah!"
Miisha sighed and rubbed her eyes. "I'm gonna go upstairs and draw stuff," she mumbled.
Katsuo shrugged and picked up the phone that was on the side table by the couch. He thought for a moment, decided to not consider the risks, and dialed Mugi's number.
"Mugi-san? It's me, Katsuo. D'you have any interesting ideas for things we could do during a typhoon?" He fiddled with a loose string on the couch and found it to be reminiscent to stringy pasty.

Mugi shoved another cheese puff in his mouth and jumped at the sudden ringing of the phone. He quickly dove out of the kotatsu and banged his leg on the way.
Sliding to the ground, he hugged his knee and hissed in pain.
"Itaaaai...."
The phone, oblivious to his suffering, kept ringing and ringing in the same tone over and over and over again.
"Hold on, you stupid phoooone!"
Mugi forced himself up and spilled his bag of cheese puffs in the process. He ignored them, but stepped on a few and crushed them with his slippers by accident.
"Fu**!" Mugi snatched up the phone from the receiver and forced himself to calm down and smile. Then he pressed the "on" button and put it to his ear.
"Moushi moushi?"
The person on the other line spoke. "Mugi-san? It's me, Katsuo. D'you have any interesting ideas for things we could do during a typhoon?" It was Katsuo! Mugi really liked Katsuo. He was cool and enjoyed studying things that caught his interest--much like Mugi. Mugi wa pretty sure that Katsuo was the only one that shared his love for looking at things.
"Katsuo-kun! Hi! What to on a typhoon? Fly a kite? Just kidding, just kidding." Mugi laughed a bit and thought. "Gee. I dunno. Let's stand outside and see what happens of something."

"Katsuo-kun! Hi! What to do on a typhoon? Fly a kite? Just kidding, just kidding." There was a laugh. "Gee. I dunno. Let's stand outside and see what happens of something."
Katsuo chuckled in excitement. This was gonna be great! "That sounds perfect! Where do you wanna meet up? Wait, I got it!" Katsuo fell back slightly on his couch as his tugging removed the loose string with a snap. "Oof! Ah, gomen, gomen! Anyways, how about I bring my toolbox and you bring a couple of your supplies? Maybe we might get ideas while watching the typhoon."
As he spoke, Katsuo had failed to notice the news change slightly, warning more strongly now of the dangers of being outside in a typhoon. He ignored it entirely, his attention focused on Mugi's reply.

Mugi looked out the window at the clear blue sky. When did the lady say the typhoon would hit? Oh well.
"Sure. We can meet up in my workroom if you want." Mugi separated a special room for his "lab". He experimented on things, stored tools, and tried to build new(fail) inventions.

"Sure. We can meet up in my workroom if you want."
"All righty! That sounds good." Katsuo glanced outside. It seemed oddly clear outside, almost a beautiful, perfect day. Would there really be a typhoon, or were the weather people just making a big deal out of yet another inaccurate prediction?
"Well, guess I'll head over to your place then. Bye-bye," Katsuo said, grinning. He hung up and dashed into the extra room that had been set aside as his workshop. He passed various mechanical parts and bits and nearly bumped into Note's bike. Katsuo had finished repairing it a while ago but Note apparently kept forgetting to retrieve it. After stuffing a few tools into his bag, Katsuo paused. Would he really need a screwdriver or pliers for typhoon observations? Maybe he could just write things down on the dirt if he noticed something. Would paper and pens be necessary? Katsuo wondered if Mugi already had those things.
He shook his head. "Meh, I'm just confusing myself over that," he muttered to himself. Katsuo went into the kitchen and quickly prepared a bento box for himself, mostly consisting of rice, leftover teriyaki chicken, some canned sliced bamboo shoots and soy sauce. Katsuo liked soy sauce.

Mugi waited patiently for Katsuo. Ooh boy, he was excited. He loved hanging out with friends, and this one was one of his favorites.
To pass the time, and because it really needed to be done, Mugi cleaned up the cheesey mess and placed the bag on the kotatsu. While they waited for the typhoon, he might as well get some snacks to nibble.
Mugi walked over to his pantry and opened the door.
"Some more cheese puffs.. Doritoes.. some chips.. Screw it, I'll take the whole thing." Mugi leaned into the pantry and pulled an armload of snacks out. Then he walked over to the kotatsu and dropped them off.

Katsuo shouted up the stairs, "I'm going out, Miisha-chan! Don't open the door for anyone, okay?"
"Kay!" came her sweet voice from above. Katsuo nodded and went out the door, shutting it quietly behind him. Then he set off along the sidewalk towards Mugi's house. He kept on walking and pausing every now and then, unsure if he forgot anything at home. He had a bag of Mirai's homemade anpan to share with Mugi, his tools, and his separate bag with food in it. Nope, nothing forgotten.
The sky above was such a pristine blue that, although blue was Katsuo's favourite colour, he was a little disappointed. Would a clear sky mean no typhoon? Katsuo shrugged to himself and kept walking.
It didn't occur to him how utterly directionally-retarded he was until he found himself back home. "What the..." he muttered to himself as he gaped. "Let's see... I made a left, then a left, then a left and finally one more left.... I wonder if maybe I was supposed to go right at some point..."
He took out his flippy cell phone and quickly phoned Mugi's number. He held the phone to his ear and waited as he walked slowly.

Mugi was setting the bags correctly. It was a lot harder than it sounded. The minute he got the Doritoes to perfectly lean against the Utz pretzels, the Fritos would slip and hit against the Lays Original. Then the Lays Original would fall of the kotatsu, taking the Sour Cream and Cheddar and Barbecue chips with it. Once he was able to stack them up again, the Ruffles would smack against the Apple Chips and everthing would collapse and jump off the kotatsu edge to the floor.
"Geez. Why are they so suicidal? Like lemmings.."
Suddenly the phone rang once more, and Mugi was tripping over himself in surprise. He tried to run to the phone, but the Ketchup chips bumped against the Salt and Pepper chips and they both dropped to the floor. Mugi stepped on the bag of Salt and Pepper chips, and the pouch exploded open, letting the contents fling all over the floor.
Then, as Mugi jumped back in utter astonishment, he tread upon the cloth of the kotatsu and fell on his butt. The phone was already at it's ninth ring, and the person wa bound to hang up.
"Hang on, hang on!" Mugi cried out, as if the phone would be able to take his message and let the caller hear him. Finally, Mugi dove at the phone and snatched it from the reciever.
He shoved it to his face and tried to gain composure. "Moushi moushi?"

Katsuo had been about to hang up when he suddenly heard a frazzled, "Moushi moushi?" on the other end of the line.
"Ah, Mugi-san! There you are. Ah, let's see.... um, could you tell me which street your place was on? I'm really bad with directions," he laughed. "I think I know how to get to your house but I'm just a tad bit confused - Oops!"
He didn't realize he was walking so close to the edge of the street until his foot slipped on the curb. He stumbled abruptly and dropped the phone, where it clattered onto the street right into oncoming traffic.

Mugi laughed when he heard Katsuo on the other line. He was always pretty strange, and forgetting directions seemed just like him.
"Haha, well I-" Suddenly he was cut off by Katsuo's, "Oops!" There was a large banging sound, a VRRRM, and silence. The phone cut to beeping.
"Katsuo-kun? Katsuo-kun? Uh.." Mugi stared at the phone, confused and perplexed. He tried to dial the number, but to no avail.

Katsuo leapt off of the road as cars zoomed by, honking. He could only go, "Eep," as a car drove mercilessly over his cell phone and crushed it like wheat grains being ground into flour. His eye twitched.
"Oh. Oh my. Oh dear oh my oh dear." Mirai - was going - to KILL HIM. She bought that cellphone specifically for him just a few months ago and it was already pulp. As if to make the situation worse, Katsuo felt wetness on his cheek, then in his hair. He looked up and gasped.
"What the? Clouds?" On cue, an icy cold downpour began to fall. "Gyaah!" Katsuo looked around wildly, but he had no idea where to run for shelter. He took one more glance at his poor dead phone, then dashed towards the nearest house and stood under the small roof by the door, for shelter. He wiped his soaked hair with his hankerchief and turned to look at the house. A nameplate by the door read in neat katakana, "Megupoido Mugi".
"..."
Katsuo reached up slowly and knocked.

"Katsuo-kuuuun?! KATSUO-KUN!" Mugi was frantically jabbing at the numbers on the phone and placing it to his ear. The phone kept giving him constant beeps, and then he'd restart the cycle.
Plop Mugi almost started at the sound. A thick raindrop smashed against his window. Plop plip plop plip plip/
"KATSUOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO," Mugi gasped. He was probably out in the rain. Lost. And maybe he'd wander into the next city and fall into a rice paddy. And like, get stuck face-down and die. "Katsuo-" Mugi headed to the door and pulled on his jacket at the same time, but was cut short by a knock.
"Huh?" Mugi walked over to the entrance and slid the door open. Standing in front of him was Katsuo himself, blue hair and strange clothing and all. He was soaked to the bone, shivering and wiping his hair with his hankerchief. "Oh, uh.. Come in," Mugi spoke quietly, and rushed off to get towels.
"You should probably take a bath, Katsuo-kun!" He called over his shoulder.

"Uh, yes, yes I should," Katsuo chuckled uncertainly. He stepped gingerly into the house and slid the door shut behind him, wincing as water fell from his body like he was a sponge being squeezed out. He was shivering violently, and his hankerchief was now wetter than a waterlogged dog.
"Ah, well," he sighed and carefully removed his shoes. After some inspection of them, he said, "Is there anywhere I can dump all this water out? Oh, and um... if you don't mind, may I have some dry clothing too?" He stood around uncertainly, for every time he tried to take a step, there'd be an awful squelch from his socks.

Mugi nodded and ushered Katsuo to the bathroom after taking the shoes.
"I'll dump the shoes. I'll also get you some new clothes for when you finish."
He shut the door on Katsuo in the bathroom and ran off to get a new set of clothing to change into. He placed a white button-up shirt and black pants neatly into a plastic basket, along with a towel, some new socks and an underwear that he luckily hadn't worn yet. Katsuo could keep that.
After grabbing the materials, Mugi walked back to the bathroom and rapped the door.
"I left the stuff outside the door," he called. "I'll make some hot chocolate for us, okay?"
