Instantly, Dell felt himself start to panic as Piko's expression broke. "N-No, kid. Don't cry, please don't cr-" He was cut off by a loud wail emerging from the young shota's mouth. Dell looked around, not knowing what he could do to silence the boy. Dell grabbed Piko by the shoulders and quickly pulled him into an awkward embrace, Piko's stomach barely even reaching his chest. This seemed to work last time, at least. "I-It's okay! It's not your fault. I... I'm sure the princess is here somewhere! The dragon just left!" Dell stammered, still freaking out. "Uh, I-I'll... w-w..." He didn't even know what to say, he just hoped that Piko would calm down.

"Mr. Deeelllllllllllllll", Piko blubbered into his shirt, pressing in closely and wrapping his arms around his friend tightly. He felt awful. "Mr. Dell I'm s-so s-so-sorry!!" He tried to say more but it just came out as gibberish so he couldn't. He knew his friend was just trying to make him feel better by saying the princess was still alive, but of course she wasn't. He should've known better, the dragon probably got fed up waiting and ate her while they were on their way to his house. She might have lived if Piko hadn't kept bothering Dell, kept talking and talking and distracting him from his sworn duty as a knight to protect his princess. It was completely Piko's fault that the princess wasn't waiting for her knight, because she was dead. She would never wait for him again.
Just the thought alone made Piko cry even harder, that he'd taken away from this awesome and totally cool person the princess. The person who greeted him when he came home and did princess-y things and was probably really, really pretty. Opa! nipped at his neck, trying to get him to calm down like his friend was doing and, after a little while of thoroughly soaking Dell's shirt with his tears, he managed to calm down enough to form coherent sentences again.
